FAQs
No. Once you have completed an EMDR Training, you are considered an EMDR trained clinician. EMDR Certification requires additional levels of continuing education and consultation in EMDR and is a separate process.
You can view the full EMDR Certification requirements here.(https://www.emdria.org/emdr-training/emdr-certification-2/)
Certification is optional and not required to practice EMDR therapy. As long as you're trained, you can use EMDR under your license. Many therapists choose certification to receive additional support and ensure they follow the EMDR model correctly.
Yes. You must be fully licensed by your state licensing board for independent, private practice (e.g. LMFT, LPC, LICSW, Psychologist, M.D., APRN). That being said, you can start completing the certification requirements while working towards obtaining your full licensure. You just wouldn’t be able to submit your application until you are fully licensed.
There is no time limit between completing your EMDR Training and applying for EMDR Certification. However, it’s important to track all required documents for your application submission.
Consultation does not hold the same legal liability as supervision. In supervisory relationships, a clinical supervisor can be held liable for the clinical actions of their supervisee. In a consultant relationship, a consultant does not bear legal liability for the consultee. A consultee may enter into a contractual agreement with a consultant in which professional feedback is given to the consultee in an area agreed upon by both parties (ie: EMDR). You can read more about consultation in our Consultation Packet.(https://www.emdria.org/emdr-training/become-an-emdria-approved-consultant/consultation-packet/)
You can start the application here.(https://members.emdria.org/certification-programs)
Jordanna is an EMDRIA-approved Consultant in Training and can provide up to 15 hours of consultation for clinicians working towards EMDR Certification. Applicants need 20 hours of consultation, with 5 hours coming from an EMDR Consultant. While Jordanna can offer a letter of recommendation, a letter from an EMDR Consultant is required for certification.
Jordanna's rates are $75 for individual sessions and $50 for group sessions, with all services offered virtually. Consultation fees are determined by the individual EMDR Consultant or CIT. Participation in EMDR Consultation requires a written contract to clarify the consultation process and expectations for both parties before beginning.
Trauma-informed therapy is a compassionate approach to mental health treatment that understands and addresses the profound impact trauma can have on an individual’s emotional, psychological, and physical well-being. At our center, this type of therapy forms the foundation of our care, ensuring that each step of treatment is mindful of the complexities trauma can introduce.
Yes, many of our clients find our virtual therapy sessions to be just as effective as in-person therapy. Telehealth therapy is an accesible way to receive the mental health support you need from the comfort of your home. Virtual also allows you to access therapy on-the-go, whether you are traveling for work or live in a remote location where you cannot travel into a city for an in-person session.
In your first session, your therapist will typically discuss your concerns, treatment goals, and any relevant history. This is an opportunity for you to get to know your therapist and decide if you're comfortable working together. The session will help establish a foundation for your therapy process. It may help to come prepared with a few goals and concerns you have in mind.
Choosing the right therapy provider is a personal decision, and it's important to find someone who understands your unique needs. We recommend booking a free consultation call with one of our therapists. This allows you to discuss your situation, ask any questions, and get a better sense of which type of therapy would be the best fit for you. No. ChatGPT and other AI tools are not a substitute for licensed mental health care. They don’t have a duty of care, can’t assess risk the way a clinician does, and aren’t responsible for mandated reporting.
AI can feel supportive in the moment, but it may also misunderstand context, miss warning signs, or respond in ways that aren’t clinically appropriate. Recent lawsuits allege harmful responses contributed to crises, which reinforces that AI should not be relied on for mental health care or safety planning. If you’ve been using AI, you can tell your therapist; we’ll integrate that into your treatment plan.
